Star anise
is a star-shaped spice used in Asian cultures for cooking and medicinal purposes. Star anise, mostly known throughout India as "Badian Khatai", is one of the most widely used spices in Indian cuisine. Star anise is used to flavor curries, confectionery and pickles. The dried, star-shaped seed pod lends a delicate aniseed flavor to many meat and vegetable dishes. Also ideal for seasoning sauces, marinades and desserts. These star anise pods grow from the evergreen tree Illicium verum, which grows in parts of South East Asia. Star anise is also used for tea.
